Dog Popcicles - keeping dogs cool in summer

Summers nearly over and I forgot to share this little idea for keeping dogs cool in the summer. (It might work for cats also, but I don't have a cat, so I don't know). Super simple and super cheap.

1. Take any ice tray.
2. Fill it with good quality chicken stock.
3. Freeze in the freezer
4. Give dog an icecube whenever it is super hot.

My dog goes crazy for these icepops, and she has even learned the word "popcicle" and "doggie pop".

These are great because my dog gets so hot that she doesn't want to eat her dog food and the chicken pops give her a little salt, water, fat, protein, and carbs in addition to keeping her a tad bit cooler. You could use beef stock also but I think chicken is generally more nutritious, but if your dog only likes beef then it is certainly better than nothing. Heck, if you feed your dog only vegies - even vegetable stock would work!

***last thing, if your dog eats the dogie cycle too fast he/she will ABSOLUTELY get an icecream headache.***but they do go away.

Green Roof

I have always liked the idea of a rooftop socialization/relaxation /art area but today I realized that there is a whole green roof movement with professionals who install waterproof membranes and grow specialty plants and do this very thing that I like but totally professionally. Specialty growing medium has been developed along with the waterproofing material and even super easy installlation modular units that you can just set on top of a flat roof. They also are good at adding oxygen to the air, keeping the temperature of a house nicer, and stops noise travel. Most say that it also adds life to the existing roof but I have some doubts about the claims (I think the extended life is do to the fact that there is an additional layer added to the roof, regardless of whether plants are there or not.)

I have some beautiful succulents that I think are absolutely awesome, hot pink ice plants , dragons blood and a huge variety of sempervivums and their cousins and I don't know what to do with them but a flat roof top garden could be the perfect place. I have also seen some incredibly gorgious succulents that I have only been holding out on because I don't currently have a good spot for them.
